Parking for students, faculty and staff with disabilities is available in the One Main garage, Shea Street garage and at the Daly Street lot.
Transportation is available via UHD's shuttle bus service that runs every 10-15 minutes with stops at the Daly Street lot, San Jacinto lot, Commerce Street Building (corner of San Jacinto & Commerce St.) and One Main Building.
Yellow Police call boxes are located near all entrances/exits to all buildings on campus, at the entrance/exit to parking garages and all satellite parking areas. Police call boxes are also located in all elevators.
Police Escort Assistance is available to ensure the safety of all students, faculty and staff. To request an escort to your vehicle, contact the police dispatcher via any call box. Students also can contact UHD Police directly using the non-emergency number 713-221-8065. Students are encouraged to use the UHD shuttle service.
Parking permits for individuals with disabilities are issued to students, faculty or staff who have either a permanent or temporary disability and require accessible parking. These permits authorize parking in spaces designated for use by persons with disabilities. Disabled parking privileges are for the benefit of the registered permit holder only and are available in the One Main garage, Shea Street garage and Daly Street lot.
The applicant must present to Parking & Transportation Services a copy of his or her state disabled placard or a copy of the VTR-214 form (Application for Persons with Disabilities Parking Placard and/or License Plate) with a doctor's signature or a license plate verification receipt, along with a valid Texas driver's license. The VTR-214 form can be downloaded here.
The UHD parking permit for persons with disabilities and state disabled placard or disabled license plate must be displayed at all times when parked on campus in a space for persons with disabilities.
Parking & Transportation Services recognizes that individuals with temporarily disabling conditions that are a result of injuries, surgery or short-term medical conditions may need access to services and resources similar to individuals with permanent disabilities. Examples of temporary disabilities may include, but are not limited to: broken limbs, hand injuries or short term impairments following surgery or medical treatments.
To receive a temporary disabled permit, the student or faculty/staff must submit documentation/letter to Student Health Services from an appropriate physician indicating: (1) the nature of the disability, (2) limitations/need of accessible parking and (3) estimated duration of the disabling condition.
The UHD parking permit for persons with disabilities and state disabled placard must be displayed at all times when parked in a space for persons with disabilities on campus.
Parking & Transportation Services provides accommodations for visiting persons with disabilities along the North Dock Lobby Entrance located off of Girard Street near the UHD Police Department. Vehicles parking in a space for persons with disabilities must display a state placard or a disabled license plate.
