The Center for Retail Management was started in 2010 as a partnership between the Texas Retailers Association and the University of Houston Downtown. The Center is dedicated to serving the educational needs of retail store managers.
The Center for Retail Management supports the retail industry by providing educational and research programs for retail managers and those who desire to own a retail business. The programs provide the education and skill set needed by persons responsible for the day-to-day operations of a retail business. The retail businesses supported through the educational programs of the center range from single store to multiple store enterprises across the entire spectrum of retail outlets, including the retailing of services.
Why a Career in Retail Management ?
The Center publishes Retail Links (an e-newsletter) four times a year. The newsletter includes interviews with retail managers and articles discussing retail trends and best practices. If you are interested in subscribing, please click here to sign up.
The Center offers professional education and training. A basic course in retail management leading to a Certificate in Retail Management is offered consisting of 12 webinars with supporting online materials. Students must pass a certification exam prior to earning a certificate. Learn more about the Retail Management Certificate Program.
The lab is scheduled to open for the fall semester, 2012 and will serve students in retail management, marketing, and related studies. The lab will be used for face-to-face instruction, tutoring, independent study, mock store design and layout as well as webcasting.
