Major in International Business
The world economy is more open, interdependent, and integrated today than any other time in the history of humankind. The resulting globalization poses both challenges and opportunities for workers, businesses, governments, and nations around the world. As a result, thorough knowledge, skills, and expertise in the area of international business have become crucial for the success of most enterprises and organizations. Effective management of these organizations requires such knowledge and expertise from employees. It is, therefore, no wonder that businesses, government agencies, and international organizations today actively seek employees who can bring this high level of expertise in dealing with the challenges and opportunities of globalization.
The International Business degree program is designed to prepare graduates for career opportunities by developing strong professional, managerial, technical, and analytical skills that are critical in meeting the challenges and opportunities posed by globalization. As such, this degree program is globally oriented, multicultural in spirit, and truly interdisciplinary in nature. It builds upon a sound general education base, solid business core courses, and specialized training in such areas as international business, international economics, international finance, international marketing, international management, international accounting, international business law, and global cross-cultural issues.
This degree program was designed in consultation with business leaders, business practitioners, and potential employers. The program is fully accredited by the prestigious AACSB-International and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
The courses in this program are taught by highly acclaimed and internationally known faculty members from two academic departments within the College of Business. The students have the added advantage of small class sizes and the opportunity to interact with professors on a one-to-one basis. The program also offers opportunities for field experience and quality undergraduate research.
Further, scholarships and internships are available for students who qualify. The students also get opportunities to participate in various on-campus student organizations, discipline-based societies, and membership in honor societies, which are very helpful in developing leadership qualities and team-building capabilities among the students. The Program maintains strong links with the Greater Houston Partnership, which provides internships, international business seminars, and networking opportunities for the students.
