Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts

About the Program

The Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts (BAFA) program at UHD develops student’s talents, cultural knowledge, preparing them for success in any fine arts institution. Arts majors will complement their studies with a concentration in one of the fields of fine arts: art, music or drama.

Graduates who earn a BA in Fine Arts at UHD will be able to:

  • • Describe in detail the historical and stylistic development of each of the fine arts;
  • • Effectively analyze and communicate the significance of humanities and fine arts products and performances;
  • • Express ideas through multiple media.

  • • A customized program. You can tailor a well-rounded degree program to meet your needs, with courses in the arts and a dozens of UHD minor programs.
  • • A prime location. UHD is located in the cultural center of the city, within walking distance of the theatre and symphony district, and just miles from the museum district.


Every BAFA student will complete an internship that provides practical work experience and encourages professional networking. Each student will exit the program with a comprehensive portfolio of work for presentation to potential employers.

Fine arts majors have an understanding of aesthetic and personal expression. In addition, students acquire strong skills in research, public speaking, and writing. These skills are useful in an assortment of capacities, for example:

  • • Education
  • • Museum curation
  • • Administration
  • • Commercial art, including graphic design, gaming, and advertising
  • • Studio art and live performance
  • • Art and music therapy
  • • Media and photography
  • • Art criticism
  • • Fashion, interior, and stage design
  • • Acting, directing, and technical theater
  • • Music production and composition
