Description
Covenant House Texas (CHT) is seeking an intern to work during Fall semester 2011. The internship is available to undergraduate students studying public relations or journalism. The hours range from 10-15 hours a week. May not need to be at CHT all the time – will be able to do writing assignments off campus. The internship is unpaid.
The intern will assist the Public Relations Specialist in all phases of the Development/Public Relations department to gain practical hands on experience in the following areas:
- Helping with social media, including the CHT Facebook page
- Interviewing staff, clients and volunteers for internal and external newsletters
- Assisting with contacting organizations for Speaker’s Bureau
- Taking photographs
- Coming up with fresh story ideas to pitch to media
- Assisting with media events
- Monitoring media coverage
Intern may also be asked to participate in brainstorming sessions and client meetings when appropriate.
Required Experience
Candidate needs knowledge in: social media - setting up and managing a Facebook page, downloading pics, etc.; basic understanding of writing for newsletters, brochures and press releases and familiar with page layout software of their choice.
