University of Houston Downtown
1 Main Street, Suite S629G
Houston, TX 77002
About the Organization
The mission of the UHD Cycling Club is to serve and promote the sport of cycling, at all levels; to assist member teams and participants in their various forms of involvement with the sport; to have fun; to leave no rider behind; to participate in charitable events; and to encourage and facilitate the involvement of as many people as possible in cycling activities. Activities include quarterly meetings and weekly member rides.
In 2011, UHD posted its first team to the BP MS150. A total of 30 experienced and beginning cyclists rode the 180 miles from Houston to Austin over two days in April. The UHD team was the only university-sponsored team in the event and during its inaugural year raised close to $10,000 for multiple sclerosis research. The team is composed of students, alumni, faculty, staff and university affiliate and offers riders the opportunity to contribute to a worthy cause while pursuing a personal challenge and building camaraderie with others in the university community who share a love cycling.
