O'Kane Theatre header

Photograph from the Spring 2009 Production of Tartuffe The O'Kane Theatre is part of the Department of Arts & Humanities and has been a part of University of Houston-Downtown for over thirty years. Students, faculty, staff and alumni have enjoyed participation from performing on stage to working backstage.

Recent productions of the theatre have included: Tartuffe, Antigone, Our Town, The Mousetrap, Romeo & Juliet, MacBeth, Oedipus The King, Plaza Suite, A Few Good Men, The Little Foxes, Small Craft Warnings, Fences, Steel Magnolias, and Ghosts.

The O'Kane Theatre, located in the Main building of the UHD campus, provides its patrons with an intimate environment, suitable for a more involving theatre experience. This intimacy gives the audience member a feeling of up close and personal with the action on stage.

News & Events

    Plays Announced for 2009 - 2010 Season
  • Fall 2009: Ain’t Misbehavin’, the Fats Waller musical, directed and choreographed by former UH-D student, Tony Glover, with musical direction by Phillip Hall. Performance dates: Oct. 30 – Nov. 7.
  • Fall 2009: One-Act Plays, directed by students in the Directing for the Stage class.
    Performance dates: Nov. 19-22.
  • Spring 2010: As You Like It, by William Shakespeare, director by Prof. Kate Pogue.
    Performance dates: April 2-10.
