Crystal Guillory received her B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies from UHD and her M.A. in African American Studies from Temple University. While a student at UHD, Ms. Guillory worked for several years in Testing Services and as a Supplemental Instructor. Upon graduation from UHD, Ms. Guillory worked as an English teacher and counselor with the UHD Upward Bound Program. In this position, she served countless at-risk high school students by guiding them towards becoming successful first-generation college students. She developed creative programming for these students that centered on uplifting and inspiring these students to meet their full potential. While attending graduate school in Philadelphia, Ms. Guillory decided to continue her service in another Upward Bound program at Harcum College. She served as the English teacher and summer Residential Director for the program. Ms. Guillory also served Temple University by working as the chief coordinator of the 20th Annual African American Studies Graduate Students' International Conference. After graduating from Temple University, Ms. Guillory started working for UHD as a faculty member in the English Department while continuing to work as a counselor with the UHD Upward Bound program. She recently taught Composition I and Fundamentals of English. This spring she will teach a new sophomore literature course: Literature by Black Women. Her research interests include African American literature, African literature, and African philosophical thought. She has recently published in the Journal of Black Studies. She also is the chair of the African American History Month Committee and is the faculty advisor for the Black Student Alliance at UHD.
