Drama Scholarships

To be eligible for the following awards, students must be enrolled during the semester of their application and be in good academic and financial standing at the university. Additional restrictions are listed below each scholarship description. All award amounts are contingent upon funding.

The Rockwell Theatre Scholarship

Established in 1981, the Rockwell Drama Scholarship can be used to cover student expenses for tuition, books, fees, and supplies that are directly associated with credit bearing coursework at UHD.

To be considered for this award, applicants must:

  • a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0 or higher at the time of application.
  • a completed 50 hours of college coursework (transfer work included).
  • participated in 3 major UHD productions and/or One-Act plays in some way.

The Charles & Betti Saunders Theatre Scholarship

Longtime patrons of the O’Kane Theatre program, Charles and Betti Saunders established this scholarship in 2007. The award can be used to cover student expenses for UHD tuition, books, fees, supplies, professional training, and/or costs associated with university sponsored trips for the coming academic semester/year.

To be considered for this award, applicants must:

  • an overall G.P.A. of 2.5.
  • an overall G.P.A. of 2.5 in all theatre coursework.
  • completed 30 hours of college coursework (transfer work included).
  • participated in 2 major UHD productions and/or One-Act plays in some way.

The Bill and Ann Stokes Theatre Scholarship

The Bill and Ann Stokes Foundation has long supported theatre arts programs for over 20 Texas colleges and universities. In the 1980s, the foundation began its support of students at UHD who were involved in O’Kane Theatre productions. The award can be used to cover student expenses for UHD tuition, books, fees, supplies, professional training, and/or costs associated with university sponsored trips for the coming academic semester/year.

To be considered for this award, applicants must:

  • an overall G.P.A. of 2.0 in all college coursework, or, if an entering freshman, in all high school coursework.
  • a sincere interest in and desire to participate in major theatre productions and/or One-Act plays at UHD.

To be considered for this award, applicants must:

  • an overall G.P.A. of 2.0 in all college coursework, or, if an entering freshman, in all high school coursework.
  • a sincere interest in and desire to participate in major theatre productions and/or One-Act plays at UHD.
