ENG 6390 Directed Research in Professional Writing and Technical Communication
Spring and Fall Semester due dates for a proposal that leads to a thesis or capstone project.
| Weeks 1 - 3 | Conduct background research, write a 4 - 5 page explanation of the project, and identify potential advisory committee members. |
| 4th Monday (or before) | Submit the project proposal form and a 4 - 5 page explanation of the project to the MSPWTC Coordinator (See thesis or capstone project proposal form). |
| Weeks 5 - 6 | Expect official approval of your advisory committee from the Graduate Advisory Committee; the third committee member will be assigned the semester you plan to defend. Work with your committee on your proposal document [The chair of your committee is your main contact.] |
| Week 7 | Revise, edit, and proofread your proposal. |
| 8th Monday (or before) | Submit your proposal to your committee, including any needed workplace or human subject research approvals (See thesis or capstone project proposal form). |
| Week 10 | Expect official approval of your proposal from your approved committee. |
| Register for ENG 9391 Thesis or ENG 6392 Capstone Project with approval of the MSPWTC Coordinator. | |
| Continue your research. | |
| Grade | You will receive a grade of either S (satisfactory) or U (unsatisfactory) on your proposal. |
