Through mentoring, Cross in the City works with at-risk youth so they may become the next leaders in their community. We offer mentoring, counseling, tutoring, high school for adults 16+ who dropped out of school, court ordered classes (anger mgmt, tobacco, gang awareness), vocational training, free legal service, recreational activity, community service supervision.
Description of Internship
Interns will observe counseling sessions, court-ordered classes, vocational training and high school classes, municipal juvenile court observations, and weekly and daily supervision sessions. 3 positions with stipend are available with flexible hours and assignments based on the student’s abilities/educational level. Students selected through application, interview process, and mutual agreement of school, student, and Cross in the City placement.
Criteria for Interns
Minimum age of 18, we will train for basic office/computer/professionalism as needed.
Open to all social science majors.
A criminal background check must be completed prior to any contact with youth who are on probation with Harris County Probation Dept.
Must actively participate in the internship activities – including initial orientation session, setting a schedule of involvement, behaving in professional manner, debriefings of counseling and other observation sessions, other assigned duties and tasks as listed in the Cross in the City Internship Manual (part of the student internship contract).
