Cultural Day

Sandra Organ Dance Company (SODC) sponsored the Houston PREP 2nd Annual Fine Arts Program this summer. SODC is a contemporary ballet founded to use the art to dance to reach a wide audience, enriching lives individually, culturally, and civically. Sandra Organ, Artistic Director of SODC, and Dr. Richard A. Aló, PREP Director and SODC Executive Board member led this event. On June 17, 2002 SODC conducted interactive sessions in the UHD Special Events Center with PREP students. This year’s goal of the Fine Arts Program was to teach PREP students to express their meaning of freedom.

Houston Works

For the fifth consecutive summer, Houston PREP was recognized as a job site by Houston Works - a Summer Youth Employment and Training Program (SYETP). This allowed PREP participants the opportunity to earn money while advancing their education through PREP. This year, twenty-six students were SYETP eligible and took advantage of this excellent opportunity.

Robotics

Fourth Year PREP students created websites within their Computer Science class and presented them at the Annual Engineering Day. Their web sites were based on computer-related topics and developed with the use of Hypertext Markup language (HTML) code and HTML editors. The Fourth Year students also assembled small robots using Lego Systems to challenge their creativity, programming, and teamwork skills.
