A large number of Houston-based industries and engineering and construction firms are involved in the design, construction and operation of plants, buildings and other facilities throughout the world. These industries have created a strong job market for structural engineers, designers and technologists. Employment prospects are excellent.
Graduates of this program are qualified to apply their knowledge in a number of structural design, fabrication, construction and other related positions. They are employed in city, county and state public works departments; state highway departments; engineering and construction design firms; fabrication companies; and geological testing firms.
The broad technical background and strong computer skills of these graduates also qualifies them for positions in sales, field work, material testing, concrete construction supervision and soil testing. Job opportunities in the future are expected to be plentiful because of the large number of petrochemical and heavy industrial projects throughout the county. Recent graduates of the program enjoy successful careers in chemical production, soil testing, quality control and engineering and construction.
