"Man shapes himself through decisions that shape his environment."
Recycling: Each year Texans create enough waste to fill two lanes of I-10 from Beaumont to El Paso ten feet high. Houston only recycles 2.6% of its total waste, while San Francisco recycles 69%. Discarded appliances and electronic devices contain ozone-depleting CFCs and toxic metals that contaminate soil and leach into our water sources1.
UHD students explored this issue through their research projects and volunteer activities with the UHD Sustainability Council.
"Most people don’t want to drive to drop off recyclable items when it’s easier to throw them away."

“None of us really realized how much is actually recycled along with how much more is not recycled."
