Green Building

"Is the practice of creating structures and using processes that are environmentally responsible and resource-efficient throughout a building's life-cycle from siting to design, construction, operation, maintenance, renovation and deconstruction."1

  • "Buildings use around 40 percent of energy globally and account for nearly half of greenhouse gas emissions."2 In the U.S., buildings use 75% of all electricity generated2.
  • Net-zero energy buildings produce as much energy as they consume3.
  • Sustainable urbanism is a paradigm shift in urban development with the goal of creating urban environments with minimal environmental impact. Some key attributes include4:
    1. Energy efficient buildings and diversity of dwelling types.
    2. Compact walkable neighborhoods.
    3. Easy access to public transit.
    4. Green space and open areas for public use.
    5. Mix of commercial and residential areas.
