Applying for financial aid is a process which must be completed every year. The following process is required to be considered for all federal and state financial aid programs.
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). FAFSA TIPS
You can apply for federal student aid by applying online at www.fafsa.ed.gov or complete a PDF FAFSA (Note: PDF FAFSA must be mailed for processing) or request a paper FAFSA by calling the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243), 1-319-337-5665 or 1-800-730-8913 (TTY users).
If you have questions or need assistance completing the FAFSA click here.
It is recommended that you complete your FAFSA online as it is quicker and more accurate. If you choose to complete your FAFSA online be sure that you and your parents (if required) apply for a Personal Identification Number (PIN) to expedite the process. You only need to apply for a PIN once and you can use your assigned PIN each year you apply.

To ensure UH-Downtown receives your FAFSA results you must enter our Federal School Code 003612 in Question #97 of the FAFSA.
Apply for admission
If you have not yet been admitted to UH-Downtown submit your application as soon as possible. We will only review applications for students who have been admitted as a degree-seeking student to UH-Downtown. Students admitted as Transient students are not eligible to receive financial aid.
Submit all required documents
After we have received the results from your FAFSA, we will make a request for any additional documentation needed. Our main method of correspondence is through email so be sure to check your gatormail account on a regular basis. Please review your Student Aid Report for important information regarding your application and also any notifications of additional documentation to be submitted to UH-Downtown.
Have your funds available for payment
If we have received your FAFSA, you’ve been admitted as a degree seeking student to UH-Downtown and you have submitted all requested documentation you are now ready to be processed for financial aid. The review of your information could take between 3 to 10 business days depending on the time of year and type of documentation requested. If all required information is on file by the priority deadline of April 1st you will be notified of your financial aid eligibility by payment deadline.
If you do not make priority deadline you may still complete the application process and we will process your application as quickly as possible.
