Award Criteria:
- The student demonstrates an intent to become a Texas Certified Public Accountant and enter the accounting profession upon graduation.
- The student has a GPA of at least 3.25 in accounting and 3.0 overall and preference being given to students entering their 5th year in the accounting program.
- The student has taken a minimum of 12 hours in accounting courses.
- The student has declared accounting as his or her major
- The student is considered a full-time student (at least 12 hours per semester if an undergraduate and 9 hours per semester if a graduate student).
- If a student is not full-time and is taking a reduced course load, the student may still qualify, if during the semester that eligibility is determined, the student is in an internship program of at least 20 hours per week doing accounting related work. (However, special circumstances should be considered on a case-by-case basis where there is a reduced course load.)
- The student shall have demonstrated financial need, superior ethics, citizenship, and high scholastic achievement on campus based on the judgment of accounting faculty.
- The student must be planning to continue their education at UHD subsequent to the Spring 2012 semester.

The Accounting Education Foundation of the Texas Society of CPAs will provide accounting scholarships of $1,500 each to college seniors who are majoring in accounting and plan to become Texas CPAs. Each scholarship will be renewable for one additional year if certain minimum requirements are met. The Foundation Trustees feel that this program will lend support to attracting and retaining the best students to the accounting profession in Texas.
