Job Summary

The Supervisor, Labor & Paint Shop supports and assists the facilities management leadership in maintaining the physical appearance of the university, by supervising the Labor and Paint Shops.

Duties

  • Collaborates and coordinates as necessary with staff, faculty, students, and visitors regarding furniture moves, and painting and construction projects
  • Schedules, assigns, monitors, and evaluates work performed by the Labor and Paint Shops staff
  • Supervises the Labor Shop by evaluating, inputting, assigning, monitoring, and closing work orders in FAMIS software
  • Supervises the Paint Shop by evaluating, assigning, monitoring, and coordinating tasks with the Paint Shop Lead
  • Collaborates and coordinates with Conference and Events Services staff, faculty, and students regarding event setups to ensure that a high quality of service is provided in a timely manner
  • Performs the same work duties as those supervised; assists in the duties performed by subordinates

Marginal Duties

  • Provides support to the Carpenter Shop, Custodial Shop and MEP Shops by supervising, coordinating, and scheduling work as requested by other supervisors and/or managers
  • Conducts inspections of classrooms, study/lounge areas, corridors, restrooms, and furniture for any necessary repairs
  • Approves all actions in TRAM for the Labor and Paint Shops
  • Ensures the required tools and materials are available for the daily tasks and duties of the Labor and Paint Shops
  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Has primary responsibility for conducting performance evaluations and making recommendations for hiring and dismissing employees.

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • Associate's degree

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of related job experience

License/Certification:

  • Must maintain a valid, current driver's license

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of the operations of Labor and Paint Shops, and the related trends, issues, and accepted practices

Skills:

  • Good technical skills, including proficiency in MS Office and in using a work order system;

Physical Demands:

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any unpleasant elements; individual has discretion in relation to walking, standing etc., and has minimal exposure to physical risks
  • Work involves some exposure to elements, such as adverse weather conditions, extreme temperatures, oils, dirt, dust, fumes, and airborne particles
  • Position requires occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, jumping, climbing, and reaching. May, on rare occasions, be required to work in a high dangerous place, in a confined or windowless space, or be exposed to the risk of an electric shock
  • May work near moving mechanical parts or be exposed to vibration. May, on rare occasions, be exposed to potentially hazardous bodily fluids and to potentially hazardous or cancer-causing agents or chemicals
  • Must have precise hand-eye coordination, good spatial awareness, and the ability to identify and distinguish colors. Must be able to climb and maintain balance on a ladder
  • Must have the ability to move items of up to 100lbs
