Scope of Responsibilities

Liza Alonzo is responsible for ensuring Presidential priority initiatives and time-lines are met; communicating with executive leadership to complete assigned projects on a timely basis and serving as liaison to community partners and elected officials. She designs, directs, develops and tracks major projects for the President. Ms. Alonzo also develops and supervises the President's Office operations. She drafts, reviews and edits communications, contracts and proposals for the President's approval and signature, as well as coordinates University events involving the President with other appropriate offices.

Educational Qualifications

Dr. Alonzo earned her Doctorate of Education from Texas Tech University, Master of Education in Higher Education Administration from the University of Houston, and Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Houston-Downtown.

Professional Experience

Dr. Alonzo has worked in higher education, specifically at UHD, for more than 18 years in a variety of roles. She has experience working in various areas including student affairs, retention efforts, first-year experience and orientation and high-level, wide-scale events such as commencement and convocation. Dr. Alonzo also has grant writing, fundraising and alumni relations as well as community engagement and service-learning experience. Additionally, she has certifications and first-hand experience in university crisis management, behavioral intervention assessment and investigations.
