Admission Procedures

 

International Students

Admission to the University of Houston-Downtown is open to all non-native speakers who have completed their higher/secondary school education. To apply for admission to the English Language Institute followed by academic study, send these items to the English Language Institute.

1. International student application form, completed and signed.
2. An Affidavit of Support, completed and signed by the financial sponsor, sent by mail.
3. Original letter from sponsor's bank indicating the sponsor's ability to pay for student expenses, sent by mail
4. Admission fee of $60.00 ($100.00 late application fee) paid by credit card authorization form, or paid by cashier's check, money order, personal check, payable to the University of Houston-Downtown. Personal checks must be in U.S. dollars and imprinted with the account holder's name and address.
5. Copy of your high school diploma, sent by mail.
6. Copy of passport pages that show student's identification information and passport expiration date.

Please note: Students who are not yet 18 years old submit a notarized form of guardianship. This form names a guardian who lives in the U.S., is over the age of 18, and has permission to make emergency decisions for the minor student. Click here to access the form.

 

Students who have applied for their residency but have not yet had their interview and who do not have a passport stamp for temporary resident admission to the United States are treated as international students in terms of tuition.

Residents and Citizens of the U.S.

Residents and citizens can register for English Language Institute classes with the following data:

1. Proof of high school graduation
2. Residency card (green card) or proof of citizenship
3. $40.00 non-refundable application fee
