UHD Men's Basketball a Top Seed

by Tony Mazzoni

April 12, 2011.  The UHD men’s basketball club team enters the Houston Club Sports Basketball Conference tournament this weekend as a number one seed.   UHD (7-1, 9-2) will be hosting its first round game versus Houston Community College – Northwest (5-3) this Friday (April 15) at 8:30pm at the UHD Student Life Center.  Admission is free.  UHD has lost to HCC-NW the last two seasons each time by double figures so payback may be on the minds of the Gators.  If UHD gets past HCC-NW, it would advance to the semi-finals of the tournament which would be played at 2pm this Sunday (April 17) at Texas Southern University, the site of the conference final four for the women’s and men’s divisions.  Should the Gators make the final, they would play at 4:30pm that day. The UHD men have previously won conference titles in 2007-08 and 2004-05 seasons.  The team has been a power in men’s club basketball in the area and has made the conference final four in each of its six previous seasons. The Gators under Head Coach Leon Trimmingham are currently riding a five game winning streak and hope to ride that momentum all the way to the conference title.
