Ms. Vivian McKelvey
Vivian McKelvey is a U.S. Army Veteran and former certified Sous Chef/Military Cook, currently serving
as the Program Director for the DAIR to Teach Program at the University of Houston-Downtown. With over 20 years of experience in office, program, and project management, 15+
years as a shadow educator, and 5+ years in technical writing and organizational development,
she brings a wealth of expertise to her role. Vivian, a native of Northeast Houston,
holds an MBA, is completing an M.Ed., and has a B.A. in English alongside certifications
in Black Studies, Logistics, Six Sigma, and more.
Vivian is also a dedicated mother to a 2nd grader who attends T.H. Rogers in the Houston
Independent School District, balancing her professional commitments with her role
as an active parent in her daughter’s educational journey.
As an advocate for her community, Vivian mentors individuals across age groups, introducing
them to career opportunities while fostering connections through local partnerships.
In addition to her professional achievements, she represents underserved communities
as a Board Member for the Gulf Coast Community Services Association, Inc. and she
is an active member of multiple civic and professional organizations. Additionally,
for over 20 years, Vivian has served as an Elected Precinct Chair and Appointed Election Judge.
