Degree Plan - Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Statistics with Biostatistics concentration

The Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Statistics with Biostatistics concentration at UHD is designed to provide students with a broad overview of statistics and its applications in biological sciences. This degree program is specifically designed for students who intend to be employed in life and health sciences requiring statistical tools. Pre-med students having completed this concentration can fulfill TMDSAS course requirement.

The mathematical component of this program is designed to prepare students to develop and use analytical and problem-solving skills, to master mathematical techniques required in related fields of application, and to enter the employment market with relevant and proficient mathematical skills. This degree offers many features to enhance a student‘s educational experience:

  • knowledge and understanding of biology
  • the application of statistics in biological sciences
  • sustained development of writing and speaking proficiency

The degree program will help prepare students for various graduate or professional programs in statistics and biostatistics. It will also prepare students for rewarding careers through smaller classes, faculty mentoring, modern labs, hands-on experience and flexible class options.

The following four-year degree plan is based on the UHD 2016-2017 academic catalog. Students should meet with a UHD Academic Advisor to develop their own plan.

Students may be admitted to and declare a major in Applied Statistics with Biostatistics concentration if they meet the following criteria:

CAREERS

Graduates may pursue a career as a biostatistician or advanced study in biostatistics. Biostatisticians with advanced degrees can look forward to excellent career opportunities in government, industry, and academia. Graduates have found positions in diverse employment such as:

  • hospitals
  • university research groups
  • health and environmental related industries
  • pharmaceutical companies

  • Bioinformatics 27 Hours Minimum
  • Mathematics 18 Hours Minimum
