Job Summary
The Accounting Assistant prepares and processes financial documents and assists with reporting, such as comparing and reconciling monthly transactions and other financial activities, researching, and responding to inquiries.
Duties
- Compiles, analyzes, researches, reconciles, and reports on ledger activities for assigned areas
- Researches and creates regular/correcting journal entries and deposits; Assists with monthly and year-end functions
- Researches and responds to inquiries from students and departments and provides information to aid with problem resolution
- Performs financial tasks related to the specific department
- Assists with regularly scheduled reports as required for submittal to UHS/BOR, state or federal agencies
- Performs research and collects data for annual reports, including collaboration on supporting schedules
- Participates in problem-solving, troubleshooting, and testing the Finance, Student, and other appropriate systems; assists with departmental website review

Qualifications
Required Education:
- Two (2) years of education beyond high school in college or technical school
Required Experience:
- Minimum of one (1) year of related job experience
License/Certification:
- None required
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related Field
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of basic accounting processes and protocols.
Skills:
- Good technical skills, including proficiency in MS Excel and PeopleSoft;
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Abilities:
- Ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community
- Ability to organize, prioritize and complete work in an accurate and timely manner
Work Location and Physical Demands
Primary Work Location:
- Works in an office environment.
