Job Summary

The Assistant Director, Collections and Discovery Services provides planning, leadership, and direction for all operations, services, and personnel in the technical services functions of the library.

Duties

  • Oversees acquisitions, cataloging, collection development, serials and e-resources management, system administration, and web development.
  • Sets new policies, procedures, and workflows, and regularly evaluates their effectiveness.
  • Recruits, trains, supervises, and evaluates direct reports; coordinates the recruitment and training of indirect reports; fosters an environment in which individuals have opportunities to develop new knowledge and skills that support current and future operations.
  • Advises the Executive Director on strategic management decisions, including the development and implementation of goals, policies, and budgets; acts as lead adviser on the collection budgets; advises on emerging trends, practices, and technologies.
  • Coordinates with regional and local partners to manage shared systems and acquisition programs.
  • Ensures that all library budget expenditure is in compliance with financial rules, regulations, and laws.
  • Provides reference research assistance to students, faculty, and other affiliated patrons; serves as a subject librarian and faculty liaison with duties including collection development through the selection and marketing of library resources.

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • Master's degree of Library and Information Science accredited by the American Library Association.

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of related job experience

License/Certification:

  • Knowledge of the related trends, issues, and accepted practices in academic libraries and higher education.

Work Location and Physical Demands

Primary Work Location:

  • Works in an office environment (6 - 8 hours), classroom, training room, or auditorium (2 - 4 hours) or a library environment (6 - 8 hours).

Physical Demands:

  • Work is performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any unpleasant elements; individual has discretion in relation to walking, standing etc., and has minimal exposure to physical risks. Must the ability to identify and distinguish colors. Must have the ability to move items of up to 20lbs.
