Job Summary
The Director of Pre-Award for ORSP directs and manages Pre-Award operations, including the establishment, direction, and oversight of pre-award office administrative procedures, the implementation of software and electronic systems used for proposal development, routing, approvals, submission and acceptance of an award from external sponsors.
Duties
- Increases faculty and staff awareness of grant funding opportunities.
- Provides assistance to faculty and staff preparation of proposals and grant applications.
- Effectively utilizes the input and expertise of faculty and colleagues in developing a compelling case for external funding support.
- Oversees online proposal applications and electronic submissions.
- Ensures documents (proposals, budgets, and grant award letters) align with University policies, procedures, and strategic plan.
- Monitors agency requirements in pre-award areas and assists with developing and implementing internal operating policies, procedures and systems to ensure compliance with funding sources.
- Collaborates with the Post Award and Financial Reports areas to maintain processes to research administration of sponsored projects.
- May assist Principal Investigators with writing, editing and revision proposals for submission.
- Sigs off on research agreements necessary for transfer of non-propriety biological materials, collaborations with outside entities, and licensing, among others with the review of contract officers.

Qualifications
Required Education:
- Master's degree
Required Experience:
- Minimum of five (5) years of related job experience
License/Certification:
- None required
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience with proposal preparation, building budgets, and submission of proposals
- Experience with proposals for NSF, NIH, or other major funding agencies
- Leadership experience
- Experience working with faculty on grant-related activities

- Up-to-date knowledge of federal grants and contract regulations, and the associated trends, issues, and accepted practices.
