Job Summary

The Dry Wall Finisher applies dry wall compound to the seams between drywall panels and nail and screw indentations on the surface of the panels. The Finisher performs work on new walls and ceilings and repairs existing walls and ceilings.

Duties

  • Performs skilled taping, floating, skimming, sanding, texturing, and painting of new walls
  • Routinely maintains interior and exterior painted or stained surfaces
  • Applies preparation paint coats, texture, and finish paint coats to plaster, metal, masonry, wood, drywall, concrete, and other materials
  • Strips existing paint, stains, and sealing coats from furniture
  • Removes graffiti from all building materials with chemical solvents
  • Cleans areas after completion

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of related job experience

License/Certification:

  • Must have a valid driver's license

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of developments in drywalling, and of all related trends, issues, and accepted practices

Skills:

  • Good skills in all aspects of working on drywall panels and applying drywall compounds

Work Location and Physical Demands

Primary Work Location:

  • Works primarily in maintenance rooms

Physical Demands:

  • Work is often performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any unpleasant elements; work involves some exposure to elements, such as adverse weather conditions, extreme temperatures, oils, dirt, dust, fumes, and airborne particles
  • Position requires maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, or walking for prolonged periods of time, as well as for bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, jumping, climbing, and frequent overhead and horizontal reaching
  • Position has occasional exposure to the physical risks associated with demolition and construction, and individual may, at times, be required to wear a respirator
  • May, on rare occasions, be required to work in a confined space or in a high, dangerous place
  • May, on rare occasions, be exposed to hazardous driving conditions, the risk of electric shock, or potentially hazardous or cancer-causing chemicals
  • May be exposed to vibration or loud noise
  • Must have precise hand-eye coordination, good spatial awareness, and the ability to identify and distinguish colors
  • Must have the ability to move items of up to 100lbs
  • Must have the ability to climb stairs and a ladder and maintain balance
  • May occasionally be required to drive or operate university vehicles
  • Required to be on call 24 hours per day for general maintenance incidents
