Job Summary

The Executive Director, Teaching and Learning Excellence Center plans and implements university-wide initiatives aligned with institutional strategic goals related to teaching and learning, with an emphasis on faculty, instructional, and organizational development.

Duties

  • Provides strategic leadership and service within the Office of the Provost, designing and implementing new and ongoing Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence (CTLE) programs that align with institutional priorities, including faculty, instructional, and organizational development initiatives.
  • Manages mini-grant programs and facilitates faculty workshops and collaboration to encourage pedagogical innovation, evidence-based innovation, evidence-based instruction, optimal use of active learning spaces, online course quality, etc.
  • Directs center operations, including administrative leadership of the CTLE Advisory Committee, staff supervision, and annual budget planning which involves procurement of funds through external grant submission and management.
  • Implements annual needs assessments, user database maintenance, and user research studies to evaluate Center activities, demonstrate impact, inform programming, and implement a formal continuous improvement process in partnership with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness.
  • Supports quality in online and digital teaching strategies through oversight of the Online Subcommittee and coordinates instructional design support for use of Canvas, AI tools, and other educational technologies.
  • Collaborates with departments and colleges in providing support to faculty engaged in degree program planning and review, evaluation of teaching effectiveness, and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.
  • Promotes UHD as an institution that prioritizes teaching excellence and student success through hosting regional events (e.g. Teaching and Learning Symposium), partnering with regional institutions, and participating in the national educational development dialogue.

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • Doctorate degree in an academic field of study offered at UHD or an Ed.D.

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of seven (7) years of related job experience

License/Certification:

  • None required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience (5+ years) leading & assessing university-wide educational development programs;
  • Record of university service on strategic planning and implementation committees;
  • Experience hiring, supervising, and evaluating professional staff (e.g. instructional designers);
  • Demonstrated record of grant writing, secured funding, and grant project management;
  • Experience supporting online and technology-enhanced instruction.

Work Location and Physical Demands

Primary Work Location:

  • Works in an office environment.

Physical Demands:

  • Work is performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any unpleasant elements; individual has discretion in relation to walking, standing etc., and has minimal exposure to physical risks. Must have the ability to move items of up to 25lbs.

Financial Administration

  • Assesses and modifies organizational unit's budget annually to provide sufficient resources for organizational unit's operations aligned with goals and objectives, in consideration of the university's budget constraints.
  • Directs administration of the organizational unit's budget to ensure effective utilization of financial resources and compliance with federal, State, and university policies and procedures.
  • Approves disbursement of funds consistent with the organizational unit's budget.
  • Monitors status of organizational unit's budget, and directs the resolution of deficiencies and/or discrepancies.

Organizational Engagement

  • Positively represents organizational unit to internal and external constituents in support of the organizational unit's efforts and in recognition of its accomplishments.
  • Coordinates with other university administrators to collaborate endeavors across organizational units.
  • Builds rapport with external constituents to advance the organizational unit's goals and objectives and engage the community with the university's efforts to address the needs and advance the development of the region.
