Job Summary
The Executive Director, Scholars Academy executes and directs all operations in the Scholars Academy.
Duties
- Executes and directs all operations in the Scholars Academy in support of garnering funding for undergraduate scholarships
- Supports intervention activities in support of undergraduate persistence, retention, and graduation
- Ensures appropriate dissemination of funds for mentoring, research, tutoring, and research conference travel
- Aligns the unit's mission with the UHD mission and vision, ensuring that the unit positively impacts UHD as a whole
- Teaches undergraduate students

Qualifications
Required Education:
- Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction, Education, or a related field
Required Experience:
- Minimum of three (3) years of related job experience
License/Certification:
- Must maintain a valid, current driver's license.

Knowledge:
- Understanding of cost centers; knowledge of sponsorship protocols and procedures in a higher education environment, and of the related trends, issues, and accepted practices.
Skills:
- Good management skills; strong customer service skills; good technical skills, including proficiency in MS Office and Access DB; strong analytical and problem solving skills;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Abilities:
- Ability to manage logistics, budgets, and expenditure;
- Ability to write grant proposals;
- Ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community
Work Location and Physical Demands
Primary Work Location:
- Works in an office environment
Physical Demands:
- Work is performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any unpleasant elements;
- Individual has discretion in relation to walking, standing etc., and has minimal exposure to physical risks
- May, on rare occasions, be exposed to adverse weather conditions or extreme temperatures
- Must have precise hand-eye coordination, good spatial awareness, and the ability to identify and distinguish colors
- Must have the ability to move items of up to 45lbs

- Approves disbursement of funds consistent with the organizational unit's budget.
- Monitors status of organizational unit's budget, and directs the resolution of deficiencies and/or discrepancies.
Organizational Engagement
- Positively represents organizational unit to internal and external constituents in support of the organizational unit's efforts and in recognition of its accomplishments.
- Coordinates with other university administrators to collaborate endeavors across organizational units.
- Builds rapport with external constituents to advance the organizational unit's goals and objectives and engage the community with the university's efforts to address the needs and advance the development of the region.
- Competently responds to audits and requests from governmental entities and UH-System on behalf of the organizational unit.
