There is no denying it, Artificial Intelligence is here. From navigation systems to smart thermostats to social media feeds, you’ve encountered AI on a daily basis. UHD’s Center for Public Service and Community Research’s vitalvoices speaker series is here to demystify the world of AI. Join us from 5:30-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 12, for “AI Demystified: It’s Not as Scary as You Think.”

Dr. Azadeh Izadi, Assistant Professor of Artificial Intelligence, will share their expertise alongside Dr. Hong Lin, UHD Professor in Computer Science and program director for the Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence program at UHD.

“Attendees can expect an engaging discussion about the growing role of generative AI in our daily lives, " said Izadi. “My aim is to equip attendees with a foundational understanding of these tools while encouraging a thoughtful approach to their use.”

In this informative session, Dr. Izadi and Hong will tackle misconceptions about AI, educate attendees on potential biases that may arise while using generative AI, and practical applications from visual arts to journalism. The conversation continues Wednesday, Nov. 13, with “Bridging Technology and Compassion: The Impact of AI in Education and Social Services.” From 5:30-7:00 p.m. at UHD’s College of Public Service, UHD alumna and respected educator Kayla Almaguer will explain how to use generative AI and digital tools to streamline processes, making traditional practices inclusive and efficient.

Whether you’re an educator, social worker or simply curious about AI, Almaguer’s session will provide you with practical tips you can readily apply to your professional life.  One thing is for sure: the AI we know today won’t be the same tomorrow. Don’t miss the opportunity to learn more about this rapidly changing technology.
