For UHD's recent Donor Scholarship Luncheon, opportunity, academics, and, perhaps most of all, gratitude were the words of the day. After all, the third annual luncheon, held on April 2, was a celebration of UHD scholarship recipients' exceptional accomplishments made possible by higher education, and a chance for scholars to say thank you, and for donors to meet and return the thanks to the 40 high-achieving Gators in attendance.

Hosted by the Division of Advancement and University Relations, the elegant luncheon featured an address from former UHD president Max Castillo and his wife, Rosario. During their remarks, the couple spoke of President Castillo’s mother and how her spirit of generosity influenced them both to strive to do as much good for others as they possibly could.

Two Gator students, Jennifer Rodriguez, a junior History major, and senior Christopher Hunter, Finance, spoke as well, highlighting how the scholarships they received imbued them with opportunity, confidence, and purpose.

"The purpose of the Donor Scholarship Luncheon is to bring scholarship donors together with their beneficiaries," said Javier "Jay" L. Zambrano, Vice President of Advancement and University Relations. "The conversations that take place between our donors and students are wonderful to witness, as is the impact each scholarship has on the lives of our students and their families.
