A whopping 65% of UHD’s degree-seeking undergraduates began as transfer students. Understanding that the transition from a two-year college to a four-year university can be difficult, UHD has always been supportive of its transfer students.

Now, thanks to a Student Success Acceleration Program (SSAP) 2.0 Grant award through the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB), UHD will enhance its support services for transfer students. The new Transfer Academy for Student Success (TASS) is providing transformational experiences for our transfer students through additional academic support, success coaching, and peer mentoring.

UHD’s Division of Student Success and Student Life (3SL) applied for the THECB grant and received $150,000 in support of transfer students through August 2026. According to the THECB website, the goal of SSAP Implementation Grants 2.0 is “to support students’ persistence and completion of credentials of value leading to successful career and labor market outcomes.”

As a result, this grant allows the Gator Success Institute to improve engagement in transfer student-related activities and offer tailored success coaching to enhance academic success. The grant also provides funding for dedicated Success Coaches to support transfer initiatives.

“I am very excited about the most recent grant award from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board in support of our work with transfer students at the Gator Success Institute in the Division of Student Success and Student Life,” said Daniel Maxwell, Interim Vice President of 3SL. “Our goal is to provide our transfer students with the support and guidance needed in their academic journey at UHD. Their success in completing their degree and providing them with a value-added experience at UHD is our no-excuse priority.”
