Several weeks ago, the UHD community learned of the passing of Dr. Deanna McCullough, Associate Professor of Biology, an important member of the Department of Natural Sciences for more than 25 years. Throughout that time, Dr. McCullough was, in the words of Dr. Akif Uzman, Dean of the College of Sciences & Technology, “a popular professor among students, an excellent chair for life sciences, and a dedicated UHD Gator.”
Born on August 9, 1946, Dr. McCullough received her Bachelor of Science from Oklahoma Christian University, her master’s and Ph.D. degrees from Oklahoma State University. She joined UHD in 1984, first as a lecturer, then as an Assistant Professor before receiving a tenured position. Along with other faculty, she helped develop plant biology and plant identification courses, as well as teaching lower-level courses in biology. Dr. McCullough was among the first Scholars Academy mentors and she advised hundreds of students.
A wife, mother, grandmother, educator, and follower of all sports, Dr. Deanna McCullough will be remembered for her incredible teaching ability and love of life.
