UHD is one of the largest producers of teachers in the Houston area, with the Urban Education program having received millions of dollars in grants that enhance active learning, promote immersive professional training, and strengthen commmunity ties through projects like the Bilingual E-library.
What better place, then, to stage a play with a public-school teacher as its protagonist? This spring semester, that’s exactly what the O’Kane Theatre is doing by bringing Dominique Morisseau’s “Pipeline” to the stage. Praised by The New York Times as a story with “piercing eloquence,” the drama follows Nya Joseph, an educator committed to her students, child, and community, who is forced to confront herself and her decisions when her son clashes with the very system she serves.
The play is set to open at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27 in UHD’s O’Kane Theatre (OMB Third floor). Tickets are $8.45 each and are available online and at the box office.
