UHD Biology major Daniela Solorzano is a bright, curious, and driven pre-med student with a heart for service. Solorzano is the recipient of the Citizenship Scholarship Award, an honor designated for UHD students eligible for U.S. citizenship who have demonstrated exemplary commitment to community service and civic responsibility.
Steven Villano, the Director of UHD’s Center for Public Service and Community Research, received funds for Citizenship Month activities. After brainstorming ideas, Villano put the money towards a life-changing scholarship. “Given all the news about the immigration situation in our country, I thought it would be a good idea to help a student who was seeking to obtain citizenship through the proper channels,” said Villano.
“My time as a student has been enriching; I’ve engaged in various clubs and activities that align with my passions, such as Scholars Academy and the National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS). I’ve found a supportive community that encourages academic excellence and leadership, contributing to both my personal and academic growth,” said Solorzano. “The faculty and vibrant student body have made my experience truly rewarding. “
Embarking on her last semester, the May 2025 grad aspires to positively impact the community through her passion for medicine. “Receiving the Citizenship Award motivates me to continue contributing positively to my community,” said Solorzano.” It reinforces my commitment to civic engagement and inspires me to look out for new ways to support others and foster positive change.”
