For Victor Escobedo, a Junior Chemistry major and club president, university life felt routine. Something was missing: community, as the once-thriving UHD Chemistry Club had vanished, leaving a void. "Organizations for biology, business, and computer science existed, yet chemistry was nowhere to be found," Victor recalls. "That didn't sit right with me."

Reviving the club was challenging. Without a room or social media, recruitment relied on simple conversations. "Hey, are you interested in chemistry?" Escobedo asked classmates and, over time, momentum grew. "Now, we’re nearly 20 members strong, all through simple conversations."

But membership wasn't enough; the club needed purpose, and so study sessions became the priority. Organic chemistry is one of the toughest courses, so helping each other through it was way to provide value for each member.

Asked about how he’s been able to achieve such success with the club, Escobedo said the secret is in the small wins. "People underestimate incremental progress," he says. "Every step makes us stronger." The Computer Science and Technology Department has even noticed, discussing potential collaborations.

Want to join? You can visit their website or social media pages for contact and membership information. There are no prerequisites, just a passion for chemistry.

The club is in its early stages, but its future is bright, said Escobedo. "We want to keep growing and building this community." With that mindset, one thing is certain: the Chemistry Club is here to stay.
