TSI Exemptions

TSI Assessment Test Administration appointment times:
Monday - Tuesday

8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Wednesday - Thursday
10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Friday
8 a.m. - 12 noon    
 
The TSI Assessment is an un-timed test, please be prepared for up to 3 hours of testing. UHD has one centralized payment center, so arrive early to complete payment transactions.

Students may qualify for an exemption from the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) assessment.

Exemptions from TSI testing include:

  • Associate (AA or AS) or a baccalaureate (BA or BS) degree from a Texas public institution of higher education

  • Active duty military, Texas National Guard, or reserves or were honorably discharged, retired, or released from active duty in the military, the Texas National Guard, or the reserves after August 1, 1990.

ACT (Administered prior to February 15, 2023)

Composite score of 23 or higher with a score of at least 19 on the English section Composite score of 23 or higher with a score of at least 19 on the math section
ACT (Administered on or after February 15, 2023) Combined score of 40 or higher on the English and Reading (E+R) tests Score of 22 or higher on the Mathematics test
SAT

Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (EBRW) score of 480 or higher 530 or higher
STAAR end-of-course (EOC) 2000 or higher on Level 2 of the English III EOC 4000 or higher on Level 2 of the Algebra II EOC

A student who has tested and performs at or above the following standards is TSI exempt. All test scores are only valid if they are within a five-year period of the testing date.
