Degree Plan - Bachelor of Science in Structural Analysis/ Design Option in Engineering Technology
Structural Analysis and Design Option in Engineering Technology
Undergraduate (Bachelors)
On Campus (In-Person)
Downtown Location
The B.S.E.T. Structural Analysis/ Design Option in Engineering Technology degree program at the University of Houston-Downtown is a distinctive program in the College of Sciences and Technology. The focus of the program is the application of computer technology, modern materials and construction techniques to the overall design of structures, which includes project planning, cost estimates, and management of the project.
PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
The B.S.E.T. Structural Analysis/ Design Option in Engineering Technology program will produce graduates who:
- have a sound background in the analysis, design, testing, and construction of civil structures (bridges, buildings, and communication towers)
- will be proficient in applying their knowledge (in mathematics, science, and engineering) and standard tools, specialty computer hardware and software to solve technical problems.
- will be all-around individuals with strong social skills, able to work in team environments, competent in communication and information presentation, and possessing a strong sense of professionalism and ethics.
- will be productive from the first day in the workplace and are committed to continuous improvement and lifelong learning.
SAD PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES
Graduates of the SAD program will have:
- an ability to apply knowledge, techniques, skills, and modern tools of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology to solve broadly-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline;
- an ability to design systems, components, or processes meeting specified needs for broadly-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline;
- an ability to apply written, oral, and graphical communication in broadly-defined technical and nontechnical environments; and an ability to identify and use appropriate technical literature;
- an ability to conduct standard tests, measurements, and experiments and to analyze and interpret the results to improve processes; and
- an ability to function effectively as a member as well as a leader on technical teams.
DEGREE PLAN INFORMATION
The following four-year degree plan is based on the UHD 2016-2017 academic catalog. Students should meet with a UHD Academic Advisor to develop their own plan.
