The Scholars Academy (SA), a nationally recognized program within University of Houston-Downtown College of Sciences and Technology, promotes academic excellence and achievement in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) degree programs as well computer science and data science majors. SA began in 1999 with only 20 students. Undergraduate enrollment annually ranges from 165 to 200 per semester. All SA members must enroll in at least 12 hours, thereby carrying a full-time course load. While maintaining a "B" avergae (3.0 GPA).
The Scholars Academy has produced more than 7000 alumni graduating members with more than 45% of its general membership entering advance graduate and professional programs. In the 25 years of members of SA membership 93% of all membership remain in STEM through graduate/professional programs and through the STEM workforce.
