Cisco Jabber Quick Start Guide


Using Jabber

Log into Jabber using your username and password. 


Check Your Connection

Before attempting to make a call, make sure your client is connected to the phone system. You will see a handset icon on the bottom right of the window; it will be either green or red. Green means it's connected. You can also verify your extension on the left corner.

Choose Audio Options

  • Windows: Click settings gear icon, click Options and select Audio. Then select the devices for ringer, speaker and microphone.
  • Default Audio Settings on Windows: Within Audio Settings, under the section "When you connect a new microphone or speaker to your computer, Jabber will", select Keep using the current microphone or speaker. Select your default headset in the preference list and click Save. Close and reopen the Jabber application to see if your audio settings have been saved.
  • macOS: From Cisco Jabber main menu, click Preferences and select Audio/Video. Then select devices for ringer, speaker and microphone.
  • Default Audio Settings on Mac: Within Audio Settings, under the section "When you connect a new microphone or speaker to your computer, Jabber will", select Keep using the current microphone or speaker. Select your default headset in the preference list. click Save. Close and reopen the Jabber application to see if your audio settings have been saved.
  • iOS: On iPhone and iPad, you can only change your settings while you're on a call. Tap More, and select Audio Settings to choose a device.
  • Android: On Android, by default, the app uses the device's microphone and speaker. When you connect a headset to the device, the app switches to the headset's microphone and earphone.

Make a Call

  • Desktop: Click the search bar and enter the name of the person you want to call. In the search results, hover over their name, and then click Call.
  • Mobile: Go to Contacts, tap the search bar, and enter the name of the person you want to call. In the search results, tap their name and then tap Call.

Forward Calls

  • Windows:
    1. Select the phone control menu on the main window.
    2. Select Forward calls to and then select the appropriate option.
  • macOS:
    1. Select Jabber > Preferences > Calls.
    2. Select Call Forward.
    3. In the Forward Calls to section, select an option from the available list or add a new number.
      1. Add a new number in the available list by selecting the + (plus) button.
      2. Enter a phone number, including local area codes. Calls should only be forwarded to internal UHD extensions or local numbers. Local area codes are 713, 281, 832, and 346.  When forwarding a call to local numbers, the dialing sequence must precede with a “9” + local area code + phone number.  EX: 9-713-xxx-xxxx.
  • iOS:
    1. Go to Settings > Call > Call forwarding.
    2. You have the following options to forward your incoming calls:
      • Do not forward calls
      • Voicemail
      • Mobile
      • Home
      • Customize—You can tap this option to forward calls to an alternate number. Enter the number along with country and area codes. Calls should only be forwarded to internal UHD extensions or local numbers. Local area codes are 713, 281, 832, and 346.  When forwarding a call to local numbers, the dialing sequence must precede with a “9” + local area code + phone number.  EX: 9-713-xxx-xxxx.
         
  • Android:
    1. Go to Settings > Call > Call forwarding.
    2. Select any one of these options:
      • Disable call forwarding
      • Voicemail
      • Mobile
      • Home
      • Add a number—You can enter a phone number, including local area codes. Calls should only be forwarded to internal UHD extensions or local numbers. Local area codes are 713, 281, 832, and 346.  When forwarding a call to local numbers, the dialing sequence must precede with a “9” + local area code + phone number.  EX: 9-713-xxx-xxxx.
