Connect to your UHD Computer from Home
This document describes the steps necessary to prepare your home computer, and how to get connected using Virtual Private Network (VPN) and Remote Desktop Connection (RDP) software.
Important First Steps
- Make sure your UHD PC is on.
- Know the name of your UHD PC. See instructions below.
For Windows 7 computers
- Click start>control panel>system
- Write down your full computer name
For Windows 10 computers
- Click start>settings>system>about
- Click system info
- Write down your full computer name
Prepare your Home Computer
In order to access your UHD computer, you must first install a VPN client on your
home computer.
Install VPN Client
- Visit our Online Software Download page.
- Download the appropriate VPN client and installation instructions for your operating system.
- Follow the installation instructions to complete the VPN setup.
Get Connected
Now that your PC has a VPN client, you will only need to follow the steps below to
connect each time.
Establish a VPN connection
- Go to the Start menu and under All Programs locate the VPN software that you installed. The Palo Alto VPN client is listed as Global Protect.
- Type in your UHD username and password.
- Click on Connect. Afterwards you should get a message in your system tray (bottom right-hand corner) that your VPN connection has been established.
Login Using Remote Desktop Connection
- Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > Remote Desktop Connection.
- Type in your UHD computer name.
- Click Connect.
- Click Yes.
- The login screen to your UHD office computer should be visible. Proceed to login as
you would when on campus.
