Call for Proposals for CHSS Inclusive Teaching Fellows 2025

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) invites CHSS full-time faculty (tenured, tenure-track, and lecturers) for the AY 2025 CHSS Inclusive Teaching Fellows.

CHSS Inclusive Teaching Vision

The CHSS Inclusive Teaching Fellows program is inspired by a shared and aspirational vision for fostering inclusive excellence that prepares students for meaningful intellectual, creative, and social impacts in our global society. The Inclusive Teaching Fellows are a supportive, faculty-driven community dedicated to pedagogical excellence and student success, and they are eager to welcome new fellows to the program.

Application Process Overview

The Dean and past Inclusive Teaching Fellows encourage all interested faculty to apply. Prospective fellows should submit a proposal for a workshop focused on a specific aspect of inclusive teaching and a particular teaching modality (face-to-face, asynchronous online, synchronous online, hybrid, or hyflex). The proposed workshop should emphasize research-informed best practices for inclusive teaching and learning that contribute to student success. Past Inclusive Teaching Fellows have presented on universal design, digital literacy, critical thinking, using the QM rubric to design in Canvas, and more.

Workshop Requirements

If selected, fellows will facilitate an online or in-person workshop during a UHD professional development opportunity, such as a Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence (CTLE) symposium, college-level workshop series, or other UHD event. Workshops will be recorded by the CTLE and archived for future use.

Additionally, selected fellows will prepare a set of at least two deliverables to share with workshop attendees, such as sample learning activities, sample assignments, handouts, and/or rubrics.

Benefits of Designation as a CHSS Inclusive Teaching Fellow 

  1. One course release OR a $3200 stipend for time spent on related activities.
  2. Recognition for excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.

  4. Opportunity to collaborate with partner colleagues and share teaching expertise with CHSS and UHD colleagues.

Responsibilities of CHSS Inclusive Teaching Fellows 

  1. Meet monthly with CHSS Faculty Fellows to share goals and findings.
  2. Facilitate an inclusive teaching workshop by the selected semester deadline.
  3. Share two types of deliverables (e.g., sample assignments, activities, handouts, and/or rubrics) during the workshop.
  4. Provide leadership for inclusive teaching excellence within CHSS and across the university.

How to Submit a Proposal

Please submit proposals and supporting materials by November 30, 2025 for full consideration. References and supporting materials do not count toward the 500-word maximum. 

Preference will be given to faculty who are currently enrolled in or who have previously completed CTLE or external trainings and/or programs focused on inclusive pedagogies. Please contact the CTLE (ctle@uhd.edu) to confirm your participation in a specific program or to inquire about program eligibility or documentation. 

Required Materials

  1. Your name, CHSS department, email, and a 100-word biography.
  2. A proposal (maximum of 500 words, excluding references) containing:
    • The title of your proposed workshop.
    • A rationale for your workshop. Why is this aspect of inclusive teaching important for faculty to learn about and implement? How will your workshop empower faculty to enhance student success?
    • A description of the focus of the workshop’s focus. What specific aspect of inclusive pedagogy will your workshop address? What modality will the workshop focus on (face-to-face, asynchronous online, synchronous online, hybrid, or hyflex)? Although you will later develop your workshop in depth, please be as specific as possible in your description.
    • The names of two types of deliverables (sample assignments, activities, handouts and/or rubrics) that you will generate through the fellowship.
    • Your choice of workshop and deliverables deadline: Summer, Fall, or Spring 2025.
    • Your choice of Summer Stipend ($3200) OR Fall or Spring Course release (must coincide with your deliverables deadline).
  3. A document highlighting your teaching qualifications, including a list of previously completed CTLE or external trainings and/or programs focused on inclusive pedagogies.
  4. A brief letter of support from your Department Chair.

Proposal Evaluation

A committee composed of current CHSS Fellows will review proposals. Members of this review committee may not apply for fellowships.   

Evaluation criteria include:

  • The relevancy of the proposed workshop to inclusive teaching and the CHSS Inclusive Teaching Vision.
  • The pedagogical value of the workshop, which should include research-informed best practices that contribute to student success.
  • The specificity and clarity of the proposal.
  • The innovation and originality of the proposal.
  • The qualifications and experience of the applicant.
