Men's Volleyball Coach

image of the coachGuille M. del Carmen is the newly minted UHD Men’s Volleyball Club Head Coach. He joins the UHD family with years of playing and coaching experience from his stomping grounds in California. He started playing volleyball in the early 80s and still plays tournaments with his own club, Vballers (nee HTXERS). The mechanics, philosophy, and strategies that he teaches is based on his firsthand experience from not only surviving in the land of giants but also being successful against them as a diminutive middle blocker at 5’6”, playing and winning A and AA tournaments.

His coaching experience includes junior girls & boys, high school, NCAA Division 1 @ UCSB (volunteer), and adult teams nationwide.  Some of his accomplishments include:

1997 NAGVA National Championships (A Division), 1st Place

1998-2012 Tournament (AA, Mod A, A Divisions), 1st Place

2015 – 2017 NAGVA Sacramento (BB Division), 1st Place (3-peat)

2017 USAV National Championships (B Division), 3rd Place

2022 NAGVA San Jose (BB Division), 3rd Place

He has been with NASA since 1999 as a software engineer but his small claim to fame is writing missile/ammunition software in the early 90s that the U.S Military still uses to this day. He’s also a nationally certified tennis teaching pro and enjoys karaoke, tennis, pickleball, and pho.

Breshon Williams serves as the volunteer UHD Men’s Volleyball Club Assistant Head Coach. He has made an impressively smooth transition from being a NCAA Division 1 Track & Field athlete as an 800m specialist to an imposing middle blocker.  Since catching the volleyball bug in 2021, he has developed a lethal service and even plays backrow defense. He’s slowly mastering  the crucial technique and timing with hitting from both left and right pins as an outside hitter and opposite respectively. His organizational and management skills are valuable to the team’s training not to mention his military background as an Army Officer.
