Welcome to the UHD Teaching Academy
We are excited to introduce our new asynchronous online course, the Teaching Academy, launching at the beginning of Spring 2025 on Canvas. This self-paced online course is designed for all University of Houston-Downtown faculty, covering best practices in teaching and learning along with UHD-specific resources.

Program Overview
Participants will earn a badge for each completed module and receive a Level 1 Teaching Academy certification, along with a $500 completion stipend, upon finishing the first four modules. A Level 2 certification will be available for completing all eight modules starting in Summer/Fall 2025.
Module Highlights:
- Module 1: Designing a Quality Course
Explore backward design, writing measurable objectives, assessment and feedback, and learning environment modeling. - Module 2: Evidence-Based Instruction
Delve into the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, flexible instructional frameworks, and evaluating teaching effectiveness. - Module 3: Student Motivation and Engagement
Focus on building a student-centered learning environment, understanding student motivation, and promoting academic integrity. - Module 4: Online Teaching Design and Delivery
Learn about online course design, UHD tech tools, and the Community of Inquiry framework.
Registration
Optional In-Person Sessions
Sometime during each three-week module cycle, we plan to offer an in-person "lunch
and learn" session to facilitate discussion of module content and networking with
colleagues. These sessions will only be scheduled if registrant demand expressed on
this form indicates enough interest. Session dates, times, and locations are TBD.
